The IMS Technical Advisory Board Co-Chairs are elected by the IMS membership. They are responsible for leading the overall work plan for IMS and the integrative aspect of IMS work groups and projects.
Linda Feng
Chair, IMS Technical Advisory Board
Linda Feng is currently Director of Software Development in Oracle's Student Products Division. Her current role is focused on architecting Oracle's Academic Enterprise Initiative strategy, integration and product development for the Higher Education market. Linda has over 15 years of experience in database server and applications product development. While at Oracle, Linda successfully managed the development of Oracle's Spatial Data Option technology, integrating it into the Oracle 7 server architecture. Her work with this project earned her a patent for multidimensional indexing techniques present in Oracle's Spatial Cartridge today. Linda has also guided numerous application development projects ranging from Oracle Public Sector Financials to Oracle Student Systems. In the last several years, she spearheaded a new development initiative to create Oracle Personal Portfolio, specifically targeted at the Higher Education market.
Mark Crase
Vice Chair, IMS Technical Advisory Board
Mark Crase has served as the Sr. Director of Technology Infrastructure Services for the California State University Office of the Chancellor since January 1999. His varied responsibilities include overseeing data center and user support services at the Office of the Chancellor, as well as technology infrastructure planning and development on a system-wide basis. The latter includes upgrading network facilities, equipment and management tools at each of the 23 CSU campuses, and coordinating training and professional development for the staff and managers involved. He is also leading an effort to develop a system-wide strategy for identity and access management in the CSU. BA, Biology, CSU Northridge, 1979; MS, Biology, CSU Northridge, 1992; Ed.D. Jan Poston Day
Jan Poston Day, Director of Standards and Interoperability, coordinates Blackboard’s standards efforts and serves as primary liaison to standards bodies. She also directs the Blackboard Developer Network, Blackboard’s open architecture that enables third-party developers to integrate their tools, systems and services with the Blackboard platform. Jan has more than 14 years of experience in project management, software engineering and business development. Prior to joining Blackboard Jan worked for Booz-Allen & Hamilton and NASA.
Chris Moffatt
Chris Moffatt is currently a Principal Program Manger in the Education Strategy, Products & Solutions Group at Microsoft working on tools and applications designed to enable the education community to create and deliver rich, interactive learning experiences. Chris has worked at Microsoft since 1990. Prior to joining the Education Group, Chris worked in Microsoft Research, where he led the team that developed ConferenceXP, a research platform for investigating advanced collaboration, multi-institutional instruction and distance learning. Prior to joining Microsoft Research, he worked as a program manager in the SQL Server and Microsoft Learning Technologies product groups, as well as with Microsoft Consulting in South Africa, where one of his most memorable assignments was working as a consultant on the computer systems that supported South Africa's first democratic election in 1994. As a program manager for SQL Server, Chris pioneered Microsoft's entry into the world of database benchmarking. He represented Microsoft on the Transaction Processing Council (TPC) and he led the effort to publish the first official benchmark for SQL Server, which set a world record for price/performance and helped win early credibility for Windows NT.
Charles Severance
Technology Chair, IMS Technical Advisory Board
Dr. Charles Severance is currently a Software Architect at the University of Michigan Media Union working on tools for online collaboration for teaching, learning, and research. Charles has a B.S., M.S., and Phd. in Computer Science from Michigan State University. His research area is the use of parallel processors for High Performance Computing and the use of the Internet to deliver educational content. Current projects include the Sakai project, the NEESgrid project, and the National Middleware Initive grid portal project.
Severance is the Author of the book High Performance Computing, Second Edition, published by O'Reilly and Associates. He has taught Computer Science courses at the University of Michigan and Michigan State University, and has developed several tools to assist in the production of multimedia web-based lectures, including Sync-O-Matic 3000 and ClipBoard-2000. Charles is active in television and radio as a hobby, he has co-hosted several television shows including "Nothin but Net" produced by MediaOne and a nationally televised program called Internet:TCI.
Stuart Sim
Process Chair, IMS Technical Advisory Board
Stuart is Chief Architect and CTO for MoodleRooms. Formerly, Stuart was previously the Chief Architect of the Education Business Solutions group at Sun Microsystems. He has over 15 years experience developing enterprise solutions around the world in the education and finance sectors.
Stuarts core expertise is the design and delivery of large scale implementations using combinations of classic and innovative development methodologies in distributed multi-diciplenary envionments.
Stuart has been involved with the development and promotion of open standards in education systems design to drive down the barrier of adoption of practical technical solutions using open source projects.
Stuart recently founded the Education Commons for the promotion of ideas, designs and best practices in the application of technology for teaching and learning.
