Want to be notified when a new post is available?
There are two ways:
1) Digest Email: To sign up for a digest email, login in to your IMS community account and enter the forum. Click profile on the right hand side of the screen near the top, choose personal options, scroll down to category digest and highlight all the categories you wish to receive email notification from, then the click update profile button at the bottom.
2) You can bookmark and check the rss feed for the categories you are interested in. A link to the rss feed is on the right hand side (in orange) in each category. The IMS news Rss feed is: http://www.imsglobal.org/community/forum/rss.cfm?forumid=11&catid=46

We are currently working on an assessment project that requires the support of mathematical equations. Some equations will involve a variable,however, when the item is served up we would like to provide the student with a different variable each time the item is served up.
How are such variables defined and how would the equation with the variable be embedded in the item using MML? |

In the MathAssess project, funded by JISC in the UK, we developed extensions to QTIv2.1 in the form of customOperators which enable the user to use the Maxima computer algebra system behind the scenes to manipulate mathematical expressions. We also created a customInteraction which enables the candidate to enter a mathematical expression. These extensions are described in the attached document, and may be seen in operation in the MathAssessEngine renderer at http://www2.ph.ed.ac.uk/MathAssessEngine-dev/ - on the main page go to Browse sample Assessment Items and Tests to see some examples. We have been using and refining these tools over several projects:
FETLAR QTI-IPS and QTIDI Blog QTI-IPS Support site QTIDI - see blog above There are quite a few examples on the QTI-IPS Support Site within the MathAssessEngine and JAssess renderers. All the ones we have created are released as Open Educational Resources under a Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike licence. The tools are Open Source. HTH Sue
