Congratulations to my many friends and colleagues in Korea! And, it is the leaders and members of IMS Korea (KERIS, SK C&C, DUNET, 4CSoft, Ubion, Union of Core Technologies, Seoul Cyber University, Hanyang Cyber University, Tekville, and Daulsoft) that deserve the credit for such amazing progress in such a short time. Early adoption of a wide variety of IMS standards within Korea has had the following benefits:
- Helping to establish Korea as a global leader in applying technology to improve education. - Establishing Korea as the clear regional leader in the Asia-Pacific region in creating the future of education. - Coordinated international collaboration in technology projects that will lead the world. - Opening up a variety of international business opportunities for Korean companies and international partners. We are living in a VERY global world - and I must congratulate Korea for taking that to heart by engaging fully in it! Many standards activities at a country level seem to be focused on "how do we take international standards in customize them for our needs." While it is obvious why that sort of discussion needs to take place, isn't this really about global cooperation and coopetition? I think so. Standards should be used to enable the interface with the world rather than to cordon off a country or region. Korea is clearly the shining example of how to do this (so far - we're only just beginning :-) ). -Rob Abel |
